Lark Schmitt August 2008

A scholarship was awarded on August 9th to Lark Schmitt. Lark is a Realtor here in Lake Havasu and was introduced to flying by a fellow Realtor, Ron LaRue, who encouraged her to come fly with him. Lark decided to pursue her dream of flying and contacted Jeff Carlson to be her CFI. They have been flying together since mid-March. Lark soloed on a Friday the 13th in June and recently completed her written test and received a perfect score-100%! Lark passed her Private Pilot checkride on August 1st. The 99s feel that Lark is a great addition to the aviation community and are proud to help her achieve her goal.

Dean Lowery July 2008

At our July meeting, we awarded a scholarship to Dean Lowery. Dean was in the military, got his A&P license this last year and is currently employed at AZ Aircraft Maintenance as a mechanic. He has soloed and hopes to complete his Private Pilot in the next couple months. Dean is part owner of the C-150 he is training in. He hopes that getting his Pilot Certificate will enable him to be a better mechanic and help him improve customer service since he will understand the pilot point of view when it comes to aircraft repair. He would like to continue on and get his instrument and commercial and may also get his CFI someday. The 99s are so happy to be able to help Dean pursue his dream of flying!
