August Monthly Meeting:
August 9th was our monthly meeting, held at the SugarBrook
Bakery in Lake Havasu. We had 14 members and guests, along with
Pam Ashley from the Today's News Herald, interviewing us for a
newspaper article. We presented Lark with the 'Big Check'
acknowledging her receipt of our latest scholarship. Breakfast
was delicious! We recommend Sugarbrook Bakery heartily!

OTHER RECENT EVENTS
March 15th Flour Bombing and Spot Landing Contest at Needles
"Wind 270 at 18 gusting to 26" Oh no! This is the day for our
flour bombing and spot landing contest! But those winds couldn't
stop our 20 brave bombers from taking to the skies over the
Needles airport this Saturday, each armed with a pair of bombs
to be dropped into a 50 foot circle along side runway 29. What's
the best strategy-out the window, or open the door? N9752J even
had a high-tech bomb dropping device rigged to the tail! Our
crew stood ready to rush out and measure the distance from the
center of the circle to where the bomb dropped. Distances ranged
from about 70 foot to over 200 feet away-our crew soon found the
safest place to stand was around the bulls-eye. After circling
around from the bomb drop the next challenge was a precision
landing, with the wheels on, or just beyond, the line draw
across the runway. Three of our pilots did that exceptionally
well, touching down just 20-30 feet beyond the line.
Second and Third place on the
bomb drop were separated by just an inch - with Richard coming
in 3rd at 11 feet 0 inches, and Ken coming in 2nd at 10 feet 11
inches. The big excitement though, was when Jamie, with the last
bomb of the day, dropped her bomb right onto the bulls-eye! Way
to go!! And it sure surprised the measuring crew when it about
dropped on our heads..
We enjoyed a lunch provided by the
Regency
Casino of prime rib sandwiches, potato salad and
coleslaw. And after that, the awards were presented. Many thanks
to Glen at Needles Airport for his help and support in
hosting the event, also George Molitor and his Civil Air
Patrol Cadets for directing traffic, and Jesse Johnson
of Wings West
for making 93E available to anyone who wanted to bomb and
Jeff Carlson
for flying, and Don & Tookie, who did the same with their
airplane.
