40th Annual Palms to Pines Air Race Aug 14-16th:

Sunday morning we were up early again, to get together for breakfast one last time before heading home from Bend. Then we were first off the field for the trip home. Shannon flew the whole 650+ mile trip home, some of it where I swear we were going backwards or just hovering. We flew about 300 miles to Minden airport, just south of Reno, and stopped for fuel and lunch at the Taildragger cafe. We had fun watching the gliders being towed out from our window seat. Then it was back in the plane for that last leg home. If you've ever come out of Reno area, going home to Havasu in the afternoon, you know that is not a fun flight. Lots of mountains, wind, bumps, so Tookie and I went to sleep and left it all to Shannon, bless her heart! As we got closer to Las Vegas, the horizon kept getting smokier and smokier. We had been so lucky to have good visibility all through our flights on the air race, even with all the fires in the area.

We came into Havasu, announced 'Race 5 inbound' and probably would have done a fly by if we'd been the only ones in the pattern:) Home to a glass of wine and a Motrin, to celebrate a fun, fun weekend. I hope next year we can take you along!

7-7:30am            Transportation to Airport/WX briefing

8am                    Begin Take-Offs

9am                    Take-offs must end by 9am

Noon                  Deadline to finish at Bend
